Sasuke is one of the top scorers of the ninja apprenticeship school and the top "Genin" (rookie/first-level ninja) of the Village Hidden in the Leaves. He is the sole remaining member of the Uchiha clan, a once powerful ninja clan of the village. He is very dark and serious, and is focused on nothing else but training to become a stronger ninja.
All of this is for one ultimate goal: revenge. His life's ambition is to grow powerful enough to kill "a certain man" (his older brother Itachi). As part of the Uchiha clan, Sasuke has higher "chakra" (spirit energy/chi). He also has a technique to blow fireballs from his mouth.
Also, as one of the Uchiha clan, he inherits the clan's Kekkei Genkai (or bloodline trait)--the Sharingan. He begins to unlock it in the fight with Haku (who himself was using a Kekkei Genkai) and it gradually gains strength as he learns to use it to track movements and observe ninjitsu techniques. It helps having a knucklehead like Naruto as a teammate. He doesn't like Naruto at first, but as they and Sakura learn to work as a team, he shows a surprising willingness to protect Naruto. It's the beginning of a pretty complex teammate/rival relationship, as each watches for the other but at the same time wants to become better than the other.
When Sasuke fought Naruto, they each use a powerful jutsu. Naruto use Rasengen and Sasuke uses Chidori. Chidori, also known as Raikiri (Lightning blade), is a jutsu taught to him by Kakashi.

Naruto is a mischievous young boy who, due to the "stigma" of having the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox sealed within him, is shunned by the adults of Village Hidden in the Leaves, since he is the "vessel" of the demon who had killed so many people in the village twelve years ago. Before he was aware of this fact, Naruto was simply a young orphan, living alone in his house, eating his "cup ramen" (instant cup noodles), and basically getting attention to himself by being a brat. He would pull pranks, and vandalize monuments and statues. He even made fun of his ninja apprenticeship classes, inventing "stupid ninja skills" as "Sexy no Jutsu", where instead of transforming his appearance to look like his teacher, he turns in to a naked, blonde girl!
Naruto is not without "serious ninja skills", however. His specialty is the "Kage Bunhsin no Jutsu", learned from a forbidden secret scroll he was tricked into stealing. In contrast to the normal "Bunshin" (clone illusions) done by ordinary ninjas, the "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu" produces multiple "Shadow Clones" of the user, with actual physical bodies. In short, Naruto can create real duplicates of himself (or anything else) and each of the duplicates can physically affect his enemies just like the real thing!
Naruto believes that the only way the people of the village will accept him and acknowledge him as a citizen of the village is to train hard and become the village's next "Hokage" (the highest-level ninja and leader of all ninjas in the village). This is ultimate goal, and he is determined to achieve it no matter what.
Naruto may be a hyperactive knucklehead, but few people have as much sheer guts and willpower, and it can produce a number of surprising results, such as when he first invoked the Shadow Clone technique. Having the much-talked-about Sasuke as a teammate also fuels his fire, since it stirs intense rivalry in both of them, spurring each to push harder.
He doesn't really know it (Kakashi does, though), but Naruto has even more chakra potential than Sasuke. The reason is that the spirit of that infamous nine-tailed fox is still within him, and the dark side of that secret emerges when Naruto is pushed over the mental edge. As he realizes just how big of a problem the demon within him can be, he gains another reason to become stronger: so he can keep the vengeful demon in check.
Naruto technically found out about the nine-tailed fox within him in the first episode when his original sensei was fighting the white haired ninja guy, Mizuki, over the scroll that Naruto "stole" so that he could graduate and be a higher level ninja. Mizuki is screaming at Naruto telling him that everyone hates him and it's a secret why, and that he'll tell Naruto. Naruto's sensei says no, but the Mizuki tells Naruto about the nine-tails fox anyway. However, it would seem that Naruto either doesn't believe him or there was too much going on for Naruto to comprehend what was being said (or Naruto is just extra thick), because afterwards Naruto acts just as if he had never heard it.
Naruto learns from his new sensei (Jiraiya) how to do a summoning jutsu. He learns how to summon Gamma Bunta and his son which is usually carried around like Akamaru on Kiba.
In the Manga Chapter after the two and a half year time gap, Naruto will still be a Genin while everybody else are Chunins and Jounins, because Naruto was training with Jiraiya. But Naruto should be a Jounin, meaning he is at that level. The same goes for Sasuke, because he was training with Orochimaru, so he should be a Jounin too.
There was a rumor among the show's fans that the Fourth Hokage could be Naruto's father. Well, not only was this rumor confirmed in chapter 367 of the manga, but also the Fourth Hokage's true name was finally revealed: Minato Namikaze. Additionally, we learn that Naruto's mother was Kushina Uzumaki, and that she was a ninja of the Land Of the Whirlpool.
In Episode 56: Live or Die: Risk It All to Win It All!, the Third Hokage says that the fight between Kyuubi and the Fourth Hokage happened 13 years ago. Since the fight ended with Kyuubi being sealed inside the newborn baby Naruto, this statement would indicate that Naruto is 13 years old, even though the official Naruto databook gives Naruto's age as 12 years old at the start of the series. This may not necessarily be a contradiction, however, as time has obviously passed since the first episode. According to this Great Naruto Timeline, by the time Episode 56 rolls around, it has been almost a year since the first episode.

Orochimaru told her that if she told anyone he was in Kohana he'd kill her (or something to that effect).

Asuma Sarutobi is the sensei of team 10, which consists of Choji Akimichi, Shikamaru Nara, and Ino Yamanaka. He always has a cigarette in his mouth.
When the chuunin exam comes he nominates all three of his students.
In chapter 314 of the manga, it is revealed that Asuma is the Third Hokage's son. Then, in chapter 330, it is revealed that Asuma is Konohamaru's uncle, and he and Kurenai are lovers. We also learn died in the previous issue.
Also in the manga, Asuma is killed by the two Akatsuki members Hidan and Kakuzu. Hidan used a technique such that everytime Hidan gets attacked, his damage gets transfered to Asuma as well... and then Hidan deals a death blow to himself (since he's imortal and Asuma is not). Choji and Ino took him back to Konoha, but by the time they arrived, Asuma passed.

Choji Akimichi is a rather large kid who has the unique ability to increase any of his body parts ten times their original size. His Team 10 and their leader is Asuma Sarutobi and his partners are Shikamaru Nara and Ino Yamanaka.
Along with his ability to increase his size, he also has another attack called Meat Tank which allows him to roll toward his opponents at high speeds with his increased body. Even though most of his attacks center around his weight, he is quite sensitive about his weight and will pulverize anyone who dares mock him.
Choji loves to eat, and must always eat the last of whatever is available at the time. In the episode "Sasuke and Sakura friend or foe", Choji is called "Food Boy" by Sakura.
Choji Akimichi comes from the Village Hidden in the Leaves.

Deidara is one of the members of Akatsuki we see in the later manga. Although Deidara has a feminine appearance, he is definitely male, and his voice is more masculine and low in the anime. Deidara is first seen in the anime as a mysterious figure before the 3 year time skip. In the manga, we see a more clear version when he and his partner, Sasori, or Sasori-danna (Master Sasori), head to the village Hidden in the Sand (Sunagakure) to capture Gaara.
Deidara uses a technique with the two mouths on his hands. He uses clay from his bag, feeds it into his mouth on his hand and adds in chakra to make a bomb that explodes without the uses of explosive tags. Deidara usually chooses birds but is seen using spiders when he took out the sky patrol. Deidara used his masterpiece (no. 18) when he fought Gaara and threatened to blow up the village. Deidara was ordered to capture Gaara and take him back to the Akatsuki to extract his Bijuu (Shukaku). Deidara won, capturing Gaara, though Deidara's arm is lost in the process thanks to Gaara's Sand Coffin.
Deidara was later seen fighting Kakashi and Naruto after Gaara was killed. Deidara often flies on one of his clay birds to put distance between him and his opponent since he uses long range battle. Deidara lost part of right his arm when Kakashi used his Mangekyou Sharingan and put it into another dimension. Deidara managed to throw Naruto and the others off his trail by creating an explosion out of himself, but he buried himself under the ground and survived.
Deidara did lose one arm for good thanks to Kakashi but was able to revive his hand from Gaara's attack. Tobi finds it first and suspects Deidara had died too. Deidara appeared and gave Tobi a piece of his mind for that.
Since Sasori, Deidara's partner, was destroyed, Tobi was able to join Akatsuki as Deidara's new partner.
Deidara is very involved with his art as he often argues with Sasori about what true art is; Deidara claims art is a fleeting image of beauty. Deidara also often ends his sentences with "un" ("hmm..." or in the English version subtitled as a "yeah". His physical appearance also consists of a tracker or scope over his eye that's covered by a lock of hair on the left side of his face. He's an S-class criminal from The Village Hidden in the Stone/Rock (Iwagakure). Although we aren't sure what his crimes were, according to rumors it seems he joined Akatsuki after Orochimaru left.
When all the Akatsuki are positioned on the huge statue on the fingers, sucking Gaara's Bijuu out, Deidara's position on the statue is the right index finger. His ring means Blue-ish Green (Sei).
Deidara first appears in the anime as a shadowy figure at the end of Episode 135. He is the one that is showing only one eye and looking as if he is upside down. He tells the other shadowy figures that they would kill Orochimaru eventually.

The first Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village is extremely strong. Shodai, and his brother Nidaime (the 2nd Hokage) trained the current Hokage, Sarutobi (the 3rd) to what he is today... though they both died early in their leadership leaving Sarutobi to train himself.
One of the Jutsus that only Shodai knows is Forest Genesis, where he feeds his chakra to the surrounding plant life making them large and strong and to trap his opponents.
When Orochimaru resurrects Shodai in Zaku's body, he is forced to battle his student, Sarutobi. Sarutobi manages to place a seal on him which traps the soul in the "belly of death" where there's no escape... however Sarutobi dies as well.

The Fourth Hokage was the one who sealed the spirit of the Nine Tailed Fox inside of Naruto. In sealing the demon he gave his life and the Third Hokage came out of retirement to take his place. His real name has yet to be mentioned in the Anime, but it was just mentioned in the Manga and it is seen written in Japanese on the summoning contract that Naruto signs to call forth Gamabunta (though it's illegible).
The Fourth Hokage was taught by Jiraiya; the Fourth Hokage was also the one who trained Kakashi who is the sensei of Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto. It was previously unknown who the teammates of Kakashi were that also trained under the Fourth Hokage, but later it's revealed that they are Obito Uchiha, and Rin.
By his appearance, there was a rumor among the show's fans that the Fourth Hokage could be Naruto's father. Well, not only was this rumor confirmed in chapter 367 of the manga (explained through dialogue by Tsunade and Jiraiya), but also his true name was finally revealed: Minato Namikaze (meaning "port wavewind". Additionally, we learn that Naruto's mother was Kushina Uzumaki, and that she was a ninja of the Land Of the Whirlpool (Uzumaki is a Japanese word for vortex or whirlpool).
There was also a theory that the Fourth Hokage may be the Akatsuki leader, though not only was this highly unlikely considering that he is supposed to be dead, but it was shown to be false when the true Akatsuki leader, Paine, was revealed. Plus, during the battle between Orochimaru and the Third Hokage, Orochimaru tries to resurrect the three dead Hokages. Three coffins come up, but the Third Hokage forces the last one back... which probably would have been the 4th Hokage.
The Fourth Hokage was also know as the Yellow Flash. He was called this because of his technique "The Flying Thunder God", which was more or less a teleportation jutsu like the Body Flicker jutsu. The Fourth Hokage was hokage for only a year or less. Evidence of this can be found in the Kakashi Gaiden series, as Yondaime isn't wearing his cape, and he wouldn't be leading his team on a mission if he were hokage at that point already. At that time, Kakashi was 13/14 years old. At the beginning of the Naruto series, Kakashi is about 26 years old, which means the Kyuubi attacked basically the year after Obito died.
Apparently "arashi" means "storm".
There was some controversy over the 4th Hokage's true name (and it is not Yondaime, as that is simply the Japanese word for "fourth", but as of manga chapter 367, it is now known to be Minato Namikaze. And in the same conversation that revealed his name we also learn that he is Naruto's father, which puts to rest that controversy. However, for posterity's sake, I will leave the following information about the controversies, as it is an interesting read.
The two leading contenders for the 4th Hokage's names were Arashi Kazama and Arashi Uzumaki. Supposedly both of these names were seen to be written, Arashi Kazama on the summoning contract that Naruto signs to call forth Gamabunta, and Arashi Uzumaki in the Japanese episode were Jiraiya was talking to Naruto about what happened with the Kyuubi. Strange part is, if you actually look at the writing (and know how to read Japanese), the part where the 4th Hokage signed his name is gibberish.
The two images over at the right show the toad summoning contract. The first one is from the Volume 11, Chapter 92, Page 18 of the manga, and the second displays the contract from both from the manga and the anime, with the names outlined, color-coded, and translated. The translations you see were not done by me, and I'm not sure how they got the name "Arashi Uzumaki" from what is written, as several Japanese translators have said that the writing there is illegible. And this would make sense, written to look like extremely poor handwriting so nobody would be able to read it, and thus keep the secret of the 4th Hokage's real name and relation to Naruto. Plus, if you just compare it to Naruto's signature, it's easy to see there is no similarity.
Additionally, I'm told that Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, said in an interview that the 4th Hokage's name is Arashi Kazama, though this turned out to be untrue.
There was also controversy over whether or not the 4th Hokage is Naruto's father. One dedicated fan was able to track down some images to help me display some of this evidence.
The two images below come from Chapter 143, pages 1 and 2 of the manga. In them, you can see that when Kakashi first confronts Itachi, he asks if he's there for Sasuke, and Itachi says he's there for the 4th's legacy. Everyone automatically knows who he means, but of course, he could be calling Naruto this because the 4th placed the Fox Demon in him.
Another fan also has put a lot of thought into this situation, so let me share his thoughts with you:
It is common knowledge by any avid reader/watcher of the Naruto series that the Fourth Hokage sealed the Kyuubi into Naruto when he was born. Also, it is widely known (but not noticed) that before he died Yondaime stated about Naruto "This boy should be remembered not as the monster he holds, but as the hero that saved the village" (or something along those lines). I would think that most parents would not let even the Hokage implant the monster that had killed many in their village inside their newborn child... except the one doing the sealing. Also, I would not think that Yondaime would fret so much about Naruto being an outcast with the Kyuubi within him if he was someone else's kid. This on it's own is revealing information, but combined with what I know about the Akatsuki leader and what Akatsuki wants, it makes a terrifying argument. First off, I've been told that the Akatsuki wants all the Bijyuu's, the Kyuubi being one of them. I also believe these are referred to as jinchuuriki (I have not read much if any of the manga, I normally watch the Japanese episodes of the T.V. show all this information is from reliable friends who read the manga) of which a few of the Akatsuki have one. My theory is that when the Kyuubi was sealed it was put inside Arashi not Naruto. I also believe that the Kyuubi was too strong to seal in one body so either it was sealed in Naruto first and Arashi took the overflow, or Arashi sealed it in himself and overflowed it into Naruto. I an avid believer that it is the second option. After his death you believe that the Kyuubi was able to break the seal with its tremendous power (much like the Kyuubi can release some chakra for Naruto's use because the seal is weakened) and took over Arashi's body. This would perfectly explain why the Akatsuki leader looks exactly like Arashi does with a big ass neckband and only silhouetted but with red eyes. People use the red eyes as evidence that he is not the leader, but if Naruto's eyes turn red after using the Kyuubi's chakra it would make sense that if the Kyuubi took over Arashi's body his eyes would be red. To further prove my theory that part of the Kyuubi was split between the bodies, I would like to use how the Third Hokage died. He died by using the fujin (I believe that's how it is spelled) jutsu, the same one used to seal the Kyuubi, to seal Orochimaru's arms in his body. He sealed them in his own body though. If Arashi was Naruto's father or good-hearted enough to want the Kyuubi-sealed child to be considered as a hero then why would he not seal the Kyuubi in his own body like the third did with Orochimaru's arms and save him the trouble in the first place? I believe that this further proves the hidden agenda of Yondaime because he wanted a body from which he could take the Kyuubi out of and make it whole again. As i said before, all of this is just a theory based strongly on facts that I and many trustworthy friends have found and compiled. Recently, the manga page you see below and to the left has begun circulating around the 'net. This manga page is a fake, created from scenes of other, real manga pages which someone has been kind enough to seek out and provide to me. The first image below is from the Kakashi Gaiden part of the manga, Volume 27, Chapter 239, Page 4. The image of the Yondaime was taken from there and was flipped. The second file is from Volume 28, Chapter 247, Page 19 and you can see the area that was taken from Deidara's body. The third file is from Volume 28, Chapter 246, Page 17, and has the image of Kakashi. And finally, the part with Naruto comes from Volume 28, Chapter 245, Page 12 (when he first sees Sakura again after 2 1/2 years).

Gaara is about 12 years old (at the start of the series), and he enjoys killing people that stand in his way (his way of having fun - he hates people and loves only himself). Long ago, when he was around the age of six, his father, the Kazekage, sent assassins to kill off Gaara because he believed Gaara was becoming too dangerous (after killing a man that passed him in the street). But the attempt failed, and later ninja's were sent...who were all killed by Gaara.
Yashamaru says that he is Gaara's mother's brother (that would be an uncle for all you slow people out there). He also tells us, as he is dying, that Gaara's father, the Kazekage (leader of the Village Hidden in the Sand, like Hokage is for the Village Hidden in the Leaves), ordered him to kill Gaara. Yashamaru admits that he could have turned down the mission but chose to do it. Yashamaru had "adopted" Gaara due to his obligation to his sister, but could never get over the fact that Gaara's birth resulted in his sister's death.
Gaara's father was killed by Orochimaru, who took his body and posed as him during the tournament. They find his body after the tournament, and find out about Orochimaru's plot. Gaara has two older siblings, his brother Kankuro and sister Temari, who are with him in the chunin exam.
Gaara's gourd is made of sand and the blood of the victims, which he says gives him power. In battle, he takes out sand and uses it to kill off his enemies by means of the techniques called Desert Coffin and Desert Funeral. The gourd itself is also made out of sand, as is his armor. He has a sleep spell that gives the demon Shukaku the ability to manifest (just check out the dark lines around Gaara's eyes). Gaara doesn't sleep because if he does Shukaku will take control.
Garaa becomes the fifth Kazekage of Sunagakure (village Hidden Among the Sand) after he leaves Konoha, after the chunin exam. Itachi's group kills Gaara by taking the demon from his body, but Naruto and Chiyo end up bringing him back to life.
In Japanese Kanji, Gaara's name is spelled "我愛羅". The kanji on Gaara's forehead, 愛 ("ai", means "Love", and is the second kanji character is his name. The first kanji in his name means "self", and the third means "carnage". Thus, his name literally means "self-loving carnage". Additionally, before Yashamaru dies, he says that Gaara's name means "demon who cares only for himself". I'd say that matches up pretty good.
Someone stated that in the non-English dub version of the Naruto box set, the subtitles mention that Yashamaru is an "aunt", and I'm told that in both the English and Japanese version of the manga, Yashamaru is indeed female. However, most everyone seems to concur that Yashamaru is a male, and a Naruto card of Yashamaru specifies his gender as male... so perhaps they changed it for the anime, and then Yashamaru was just accidentally labeled as an "aunt". Or perhaps Yashamaru is female in the Japanese version, and they just changed it for the English version, though this is highly unlikely due to the deep male voice and male appearance.
I'm told that typically "maru" is the ending for a boy's name (like "ko" is a typical ending for a girl's name). Apparently, "maru" in the ending of a name is traditionally used for samurai, and parents who named their children with "-maru" wished for them to have bravery, thus the reason it is most often used for boys (chances are that someone wouldn't name a female child 'Yashamaru' because of that). But who knows if that actually means anything in this case. If you have any additional evidence one way or the other, please contact me.
It's no secret that Gaara has siblings, however, someone suggested that his siblings might not actually be his siblings at all, as apparently everyone in the Village Hidden in the Sand refers to each other as brother and sister, which could obviously cause some confusion. There is much evidence, however, that seems to show that the three are in fact siblings. First, in chapters 253 and 254, Kankuro is seen without his makeup and appears to resemble Gaara. Next, in a flashback scene, we see a burning photograph of Temari, Kankuro, Gaara, and the Kazekage. Both Gaara and Kankuro resemble Gaara's known father, the Kazekage, and Temari has the same hair color as Gaara's known mother, who was also seen in a flashback.
Another piece of evidence comes from an episode somewhere in the 74-79 range, where Gaara is having a flashback moment and he talks about how Yashamaru attacked him. It was then that he knew he was to only love himself. At that point in the episode the scene is where you see a younger Temari, Kankuro, and the Kazekage (I am not for sure if Yashamaru is there) all standing together, and it seems as though a camera pans and then you see Gaara, alone. If they are not siblings then why would Gaara think of them, after all they do not learn of their partners until they are a Genin.
Additionally, it's reported in the Shonen Jump manga that they are known as The Sand Siblings.
And finally, arguably the most compelling evidence comes from the episode after Gaara killed three people in the second stage of the Chunnin exams, Kankuro said "Alright, lets head to the tower" and Gaara responded "Just Shut-up", and a few moments later they were arguing and Kankuro grabbed Gaara by the shirt and said "Alright that's enough! Sometimes you've got to listen to what your big brother says!". Gaara's only reply was "Too bad I don't think of you as my siblings at all; if you get in my way, I'll kill you too".
I have had conflicting reports of Gaara's age. Some say 12, some say 14, and many say 13. Thankfully, however, this mystery seems to be over, as in Episode 58 (season 3) Gaara himself makes the statement "These past six years, starting from when I was six...". This would make him 12 years old in Season 3.

There is a little controversy over whether Haku is male or female, as Haku appears very feminine. The evidence, however, shows us that Haku is most assuredly a male. First off, in the manga profiles, he is listed as a male. Also, he claims to be a boy a couple times in the series (he tells Naruto "By the way, I'm a boy", and in the Japanese version, refers to himself using the term "boku", which a term used only for males. Additionally, in a flashback from another character's past, a young Haku and Zabuza are shown walking from the village of the mist, and Haku is dressed as a boy and is referred to as male. And in episode 9, Kakashi says that Haku is a boy several times.
Now, some fans point out that the two instances when Haku admits to being a male in the series could be explained. First, when Haku told Naruto that he was a boy, he could have done so because he did not want anyone falling in love with him (or actually in that case, it would be "her", not "him". Then Haku was called a boy by Zabuza, but this could have been because Zabuza was embarrassed that his partner was a female.
For more evidence of Haku's gender, lets take a look at the picture to the left that somebody pointed me to. There are no cleavage lines, though there do appear to be breasts outlined by the clothes. This is easily explained, however, as just the cloth drooping because Haku is leaning over.
The episode titled "White Past: Hidden Ambition" contains a flashback when we witness Haku showing his mother his advanced bloodline. In this scene, she smacks his hand and says "you wicked, wicked child", followed shortly by "I'm sorry my darling" (play clip). I mention this because I had someone tell me that when Haku's mother smacked his hand, she said "You are a bad Boy, Haku", and someone else told me that just afterwards, she says "I'm sorry my daughter". Listing to the audio clip, you can hear that both of those claims are incorrect for the American Dubbed version, and I've been told that they are incorrect for the Japanese version as well. So basically, there don't seem to be any clues lurking there.
I was also told that on page 82 of the June 2006 Shonen Jump magazine, the second answer to a fan's letter states that Haku is a boy:
Haku is a boy. If you think he looks like a girl, you're not alone, because Naruto thought so, too. But he's a boy. I believe, however, that this is the Shonen Jump staff answering, and not Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto.

Hidan is the second newest member of the Ataksuki to be accepted into it's roster, but relatively little is known about Hidan.
Like all Ataksuki Members, Hidan is an S-Rank Criminal, though his crimes, and the penalty for them is unknown. Hidan comes from an unknown village, and practices a very twisted and bloody religion known as Jashin, which means evil heart or evil god. This religion orders nothing but complete and utter destruction, and anything less than that is considered a sin. Upon victories in battle, Hidan performs twisted and long rituals, which irritates Hidan's partner, Kakuzu, who also annoys Hidan in that Kakuzu often gets sidetracked by bounty hunting.
Hidan's weapon of choice is a large, triple-bladed Scythe, attached to the end of a long cable, though Hidan's full experience with this weapon is shrouded in mystery, and we will probably never see it, since Hidan was killed by Nara Shikamaru.
One of Hidan's trump cards is a largely dangerous, unknown Jutsu, that endures attacks and blows, and reflects the damage back to a foe; however, Hidan must ingest the blood of the foe in order to perform this Jutsu successfully. This Jutsu is how Hidan managed to take the life of Sarutobi Asuma, a Hidden Leaf Jounin who was Leader of Team 10, including Shikamaru. Because of this Jutsu, Hidan can be called immortal by some people, but the Jutsu has a weakness, discovered by Nara Shikamaru. Hidan was caught by Shikamaru's trap, and blown up by explosive tags.
Shikamaru buried Hidan's remains. Although it is unknown if Hidan is truly dead; he has disappeared, and can apparently no longer work, and was no longer part of Ataksuki.

Hinata is an interesting character. She's one of my favorites on the show. Hinata is very quiet, secluded, and shy. She usually avoids social events, and she has a large affection for Naruto, which is sadly, not returned. (Or is it?)
Her cousin, Neji Hyuuga, hates her because she is part of the main house of the Hyuuga clan. She tries to become friends with him, but he is reluctant. Hinata is paired up in team 8 with Shino and Kiba.
Hinata resides in the Main House of the Hyuuga Clan (while her cousin, Neji Hyuuga, lives in the Branch House). Hinata seems to have weak Hyuuga blood in her and has not mastered the secret arts of their clan (for instance the Byakugan which is a technique that allows the user to see chakara points and find where they are).
She dislikes fighting and is very shy. She also developed a crush on Naruto which causes her additional shyness. She knows a lot about medicines but she is not confident of her abilities. With the encouraging words of her secret crush, Naruto, she gains more confidence and even stands up to her cousin, Neji.
In the second part of the series, when Hinata and the Rookie Nine are 15 years old, Hinata seems to have lost much of the confidence Naruto has given her, and she is seen hiding behind a pillar unwilling to confront Naruto after so long.
Editor's Note: In the manga it is said that Hinata has brown hair, however it is shown on the cover of the ninth manga that she has blue hair, thus it must have just been a bad translation.

One of the members of the Akatsuki group, Kisame is a deadly terrorist trained for evil purposes. Partners with Uchiha Itachi, he remains loyal as a teammate with him. Known as the Daimyo Killer, he was formerly a hidden mist shinobi. Water tribes were constantly searching for this shinobi after he terrorized them.
Enlisted with Itachi as a S-Class criminal, Kisame is as deadly as any shinobi can get. Armed with a gigantic broadsword covered with tape, Kisame can crush anything. If his "Samehade" (sharkskin blade) is revealed when the tape unfolds, it becomes an ultimate murder weapon.
His blade also sucks up chakra of people inches from it, though only when he swings it.
Kisame is one of the seven shinobi-gatana of the mist. The ring that Hoshigaki Kisame wears means 'south'. And according to Kisame, his blade, the Samehade, "does not slice, it shaves".

Ino is a Genin and was assigned to a team with Akimichi Chouji and Nara Shikamaru. Ino likes Sasuke, which is the main reason why she is Sakura's enemy.
Before both Sakura and Ino liked Sasuke, they were best friends. Ino helped Sakura become more confident and believe in herself when they were younger. Because they once were such good friends, this made it interesting for them to have to fight each other in the preliminary matches of the Chunin Tournament. Ino's favorite move is the Mind Transfer.
Ino has long yellow hair tied in a pony tail, and long bangs in front of her face. Her long hair ended up becoming a symbol of her rivalry with Sakura, as they both grew it long because they heard Sasuke liked long hair. Sakura then cuts it during a battle in the Forest of Death, and later in the chunin exam when she and Ino were chosen to fight for the preliminary rounds, Ino cuts her hair after being called superficial by Sakura. Thankfully, the two of them then became friends again.
Ino's family owns a flower shop.

Itachi is Sasuke's older brother and these two are the only ones left in the Uchiha clan. The entire clan was murdered by Itachi about four years ago. Itachi seemed to hold a grudge against his clan and the only reason he gave for his crime was he wanted to test his strength.
He succeeded in killing everyone except Sasuke. He left his little brother alive, telling him "Foolish little brother... you can't kill me, your hate's not strong enough... you're not strong enough. That's right, live in shame, run away, and live." Sasuke has done this, living only to avenge his family and become strong enough to kill Itachi. However, killing Itachi is not going to be easy. Itachi at age seven was already a ninja, at eight had mastered the Sharingan (a special ability of the Uchiha), and at 13 had destroyed an entire tribe. He was able to stand up to Kurenai, Asuma, and Kakashi (all of whom are the highest ranking ninjas, and Kakashi being Sasuke's sensei). He was also able to defeat Orochimaru who is said to be one of the most powerful ninjas of Leaf Village.
Once he killed his family, he fled from the Leaf Village and joined a terrorist organisation called Akatsuki and quickly became a top member. He has returned to Leaf Village on a mission to kidnap Naruto so they can use the demon inside him. His strongest attack is the Mangekyou Sharingan which is the ability to enter another's mind and make them feel anything you want. For example, when fighting Kakashi, Itachi forces Kakashi to feel as if he is being stabbed with katanas for 72 hours in only a matter of seconds. This leaves Kakashi unconcious for several days.
Itachi's ninja level is unknown, though he was described by Asuma as an S-ranked criminal. He graduated top of his Academy class at age seven, had mastered the Sharingan by age eight, became a Chuunin at ten, and was previously an ANBU squad leader at the age of only 13. Now 17, he is feared even by Orochimaru. He left the Leaf Village some years ago, after destroying all but Sasuke of the Uchiha clan.
After the death of the Third Hokage, he returns to the village and encounters Kurenai, Asuma, and Kakashi with his comrade, Hoshigaki Kisame. With no intention of letting them leave quietly, Asuma, Kurenai, and Kakashi fight them, but are very easily defeated.
have done a lot of research and watched basically all of the anime series out there, thanks to Naruto Central and Naruto Fan, and I have a downloaded copy of all the manga issues. I have also done data research through various website and books including Wikipedia and Shonen Jump. During this time, I found some new data "suggesting" that once a ninja goes rouge they are no longer classified as ranks such as a Chuunin, Jounin, Sanin, and the like, but are instead ranked by letter, graded by skill, criminal activities, and threat level. Then they are assigned a letter out of the following (please remember, this is just my theory):
F: Basically, loosers who can only do stuff academy ninjas can, or aren't ninjas and have very low skills as a warrior. D: Basically, a Genin or someone who has done a large amount of misdemeanors. C: Chunin or someone who has done a lot of misdemeanors AND a few bigger stuff such as a murder and stuff. B: Chunin or Jounin level, or someone who has done quite a bit or criminal activity such as murders and assassinations. A: This is held in reserve for people of at least Jounin level and does major crimes without discrimination. S: This is held in reserve to that of a major threat like someone capable of equaling a Kage and has done severe criminal activity like a lot of assassinations of major people and other TERRORIST-like activities. U: This basically translates to a super S-Class, and relates to anyone who is at a level were they can take on multiple S-Class ninjas with ease.
Now this type of ranking system is also used in real life by military intel bureau and international crime management organizations. In both the manga and anime, many people, including Jiraiya in episode 81 and 82, feel that all of the members in Akatsuki are in fact "s-class". So, in conclusion, lets just say he is a major bad ass.

Jiraiya-sama is known as the Ero-Sennin by Naruto. Jiraiya is the creator of Love Love Paradise (also known as Come Come paradise), the book that Kakashi is always reading.
The technique Jiraiya uses the most is his Summoning no Jutsu. This technique can summon a Toad of any size. One of the toads that he summons is called Gamabunta the Frog Boss. Two other smaller frogs he can summon are Gamabunta's children, Gamakichi and Gamakichi's younger brother Gamatatsu.
Jiraiya is known to everyone as one of the legendary ninjas of the leaf country. Jiraiya-sama is also the one who taught the Fourth Hokage most of his techniques. One of the techniques that he learns from the Fourth Hokage is the Rasengan, which he teaches to Naruto.
The symbol on his forehead protector means oil (as can be seen at Kanji Land).

Jiraiya is best known as Ero-Sennin by Naruto. He is the author of Come Come Paradise. To most people, however, he is known as one of the Three Legendary Sannins. Sannins, a rank only comparable to a Hokage, is a rank given to legends who did something extraordinary. The other two sannins are Orochimaru and Tsunade. Jiraiya is also the replacement tutor of Naruto. He replaced Ebisu as a teacher after defeating him with his frog summon. Ebisu was teaching Naruto how to control chakra in his feet above the hot springs until he found Jiraiya looking through the girl's hot springs. Jiraiya is known for his love for women. Naruto often tried to lure Jiraiya into teaching him seriously without looking at naked women by transforming into one. Jiraiya is known to many because of his famous peeking technique. He boasts that he never was caught. Jiraiya was also the teacher of the Fourth Hokage. The sennin would often tell Naruto how he was similar to the Fourth in order to make him train harder.
It is possible to compare Jiraiya with Naruto for he is almost like the mirror image of him. During the survival test, both Jiraiya and Naruto were placed onto the log. The point of the test is to steal the bells from the teachers before it becomes 12 o' clock. There are two bells and three competitors, therefore, one is bound to get stuck to the log. Both teachers of the two characters also said "You shouldn't fall for such obvious traps" to them.
Jiraiya is a very serious when it comes to fighting. His fighting style is extremely unique. Famously known as the frog hermit, Jiraiya has the ability to summon a frog into battle. Depending on the size, the frog's attacks are extremely affective. The largest and strongest of the frogs is Gamabunta, who's size is comparable to Gaara's Shukaku, Orochimaru's snake, and Tsunade's slug. Jiraiya also knows the Rasengan, which is a devastating move that is stronger than the Chidori. It is basically forming a small typhoon on the palm of the hand and pushing it full force. It is an extremely hard jutsu only used by one Hokage. It was learned within 3 years. Both the frog summoning and Rasengan were taught by Jiraiya to Naruto. Jiraiya also has the ability to use his hair as a whip-like weapon. Lastly, he knows how to create a giant lake of oil, similar to the one used to Orochimaru's snake.
Note: For the term "Sannin", the actual wording used in the manga and anime is "densetsu no san-nin", which translates as "three ninja of legend", whereas the term Sennin basically means hermit or wise man, which is what Jiraiya will use to refer to himself.

Kabuto is one of Orochimaru's followers. He is a spy but he doesn't want to expose his cover, that's why he purposely failed the Chuunin examination six times! But even though he is good at hiding, all the sensei know his secret.
Kabuto is actually a Genin, which is revealed in the manga, Volume 4, Issue 5, Page 59. The assumed Jounin level is because of a conversation Orochimaru has with Kabuto right before the final rounds of the Chuunin exam - it occurs in both the manga and the anime, and Orochimaru says "You may be stronger than Kakashi, but you are not at my level yet".
It would also be essential to mention that he's a very good medic, and Tsunade even says about him that he is far better than she was at the same age. Orochimaru uses his medical talents to perform a number of surgeries on himself (such as making his transfers to other bodies successful or taking care of him after the Third nearly killed him) and on a number of his most powerful followers (Kabuto maintained Kaguya Kimimaro's life when his mysterious illness took him).

Kakashi is one of the Hidden Leaf Village's "Jounin" (elite/top-level ninja), and Team 7's trainer/teacher. He wears a ninja mask covering his face up just below the eyes and wears his headband skewed on his head, covering his left eye. At first Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke think he's not much of a teacher nor ninja, but when Kakashi places them under his "Survival Training" course, the three "Genins" (rookie/first-level ninja) realize the value of teamwork in getting the mission done.
Kakashi's unique ability is the use of the "Sharingan" in his left eye. It is an ability unique to the Uchiha clan (Sasuke also has a weaker version of this ability), yet Kakashi is not from Uchiha. The "Sharingan" allows the user to copy and predict the movements of any genjutsu or ninjutsu technique used against him (except for bloodline trait techniques). Of course, you would have to SEE the ability/technique first in order to copy it, and using the Sharingan too much drains a lot of energy from Kakashi's body since he is not from Uchiha.
The story of how Kakashi obtained his Sharingan comes from the manga, told in Kakashi Gaiden, which is the side story that separates the two parts of Naruto. After Kakashi Gaiden, the Naruto story picks up again 2 1/2 years later. Currently, the anime series is still in the first part of the Naruto story and hasn't yet reached the Kakashi Gaiden part. However, odds are that Kakashi's Sharingan origin will be the same (or at least very similar to) the one in the manga. Anyway, lets get on with it....
When Kakashi graduated as a jounin, his teammates had to give him a present, but Uchiha Obito forgot. They also had to do a mission on the same day. On that mission to the grasslands, they got attacked by a group on rock ninjas. The rock ninja's can turn invisible, and slashed Kakashi's left eye (that's how he got the scar). Later, Uchiha Obito gets his whole right side crushed by a huge rock thrown by a rock-ninja. With the last of his strength, Obito tells Kakashi the last gift he will ever give to him is his left Sharingan eye. So then Rin, with her special ability, transplanted Obito's eye to Kakashi. During the timeskip later in the series, Kakashi develops his Sharingan into the Mangekyo Sharingan, which is basically just an enhanced version.
Kakashi is not without his "lighter side", though, as one of his "quirks" is reading some kind of adult books titled "Icha Icha Paradise" and "Icha Icha Violence". Nothing, not even survival training, can stop Kakashi from reading through the pages just to "see what happens next"!
Oh, and the reason Kakashi is always late is because his friend, Obito, was always late, and he choose to adopt his old friend's habit. Unfortunately, Uchiha Obito's body was never recovered, so instead of a grave, he visits a large stone monument that serves as a memorial for all those who died for the mission's completion.
Kakashi's name literally means "scarecrow".
Ichya Ichya Paradise was translated to "Make-Out Paradise" in the US version of SHONEN JUMP, but would be more closely translated to "Come Come Paradise" or "Flirting Paradise". Additionally, "Icha Icha Violence" was translated as "Make-out Violence". I'm also told that Kakashi reads another book/magazine, "Icha Icha Tatics".

I love his attitude, since it's sorta similar to the way I act. He is very quick and is very good at ninjutsu. How good? Good enough to read a book while he's fighting, providing that the fighter isn't as good as Sasuke. However, he seems to have a strange taste in the reading matter. Weird guy, and I'm not asking.
He's extremely strict, and has never passed anyone before, until Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura came.... He seems to empathize on teamwork, and had purposely made a test with instructions that would make them want to work separately. Afterwards, he gives them another chance, and tells Sakura and Sasuke that they may eat their lunch, but they cannot give any to Naruto after he attempted to steal them. However, when both of them gave their lunches to Naruto.... They passed! Kakashi's a really strange guy.... I like him, he's funny.
Kakashi possesses one sharingan eye. I repeat, one. This mirror-wheel eye allows him see through illusions and spells, and reflect those powers used to create those illusions and spells back at the one who cast them. It also allows him to discern and copy an opponent's moves. Normally, he keeps his eye covered with his headband (for reasons that you'll find out), and if he exposes his eye to fight an opponent... you know the opponent is going to be tough.
Kakashi got his sharingan eye from a friend, a member of the Uchiha clan. Kakashi, Rin, Obito and Yondaime were on a mission, and Kakashi had become a jounin on his birthday so Yondaime made him mission leader and went off to help fight a part of some massive war. Then during the mission Rin got captured, but Kakashi did not want to go and get her (the reason for this is because his dad, the White Fang of Konoha, did the same thing and became a disgraced ninja and killed himself). Obito then went off to get Rin back since he has a similar attitude to that of Naruto, and as he fought the guy that captured Rin he awakened his Sharingan... then Kakashi comes around to join the fight ('cause Obito gave him a speech beforehand) and long story short they win the fight but the guy they were fighting (an Iwagakure shinobi named Kakko) did a rock slide move ("Doton: Iwayado Kuzushi", AKA "Earth Release: Rock Lodging Destruction" to take 'em out. Since Kakashi couldn't escape in time, Obito pushed him out of the way, but Obito then got caught under Rock slide.
With half of his body crushed (namely the right side) he pledged his awakened sharingan from his left eye to Kakashi, and Rin (a medical ninja) performed the transplant for him. Kakashi then goes to fight the idiot that killed Obito with his newly acquired Sharingan, and Chidori (AKA One Thousand Birds), a move he had just invented earlier that day. So Kakko ends up having the honor of being the first person to be killed by Kakashi's Chidori. And now that is why Kakashi has a sharingan. Also, that is why his "2 bells test" highlights friendship and team work, as he felt if he had made it there earlier Obito wouldn't have died.

Obito's sharigan eye only had two stages when he gave it to Kakashi. Kakashi's sharigan eye has three stages, showing that Kakashi has evolved it into its third stage. Kakashi also has an ongoing rivalry with Maito Gai. Kakashi has 49 wins and 50 losses against Gai. However, the battles include sprints, and Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Kimimaro is the last of the Kaguya clan, a group of ninja said to be extremely bloodthirsty and war-loving. Even then, Kimimaro was born so unnaturally strong that he was locked away in a cell for much of his young life by his own people. When the less-than-sane clan decided to attack Hidden Mist village, Kimimaro was finally let out of his cage and given a purpose... to kill those of Mist. But the need to destroy wasn't enough to ensure victory for this clan of ninjas, and they were completely wiped out, all but Kimimaro.
Alone and abandoned once again in the world, the young boy wandered in the wilds until he was picked up by Orochimaru. Having watched the massacre of Mist village, the evil Sennin knew he had found himself a weapon worthy of honing. And the lonely child was completely taken in by the man's manipulative kindness, pledging his life to his Orochimaru-sama.
Given the Earth cursed seal and made the leader of the Sound Five, Kimimaro was instrumental in the preparations for the attack on Konoha village. But in the last minute, he was suddenly overwhelmed by a mysterious illness and unable to assist during the attack. Kabuto cruelly laments this as part of the reason they ultimately failed in their attack.
Kimimaro, despite being put on life support, felt as if he had failed the man who had given him purpose in life. Originally tapped to be Orochimaru's next body, Kimimaro could no longer serve the purpose and now his only wish before dying was to see that the man he served would get what he wants. And what he wanted was Uchiha Sasuke for his next container.
Dragging himself out off his deathbed, the young man stopped Naruto and Shikamaru from taking Sasuke back. Fighting first Naruto, then Lee, Kimimaro's superior experience and ability to use his whole skeleton as a weapon was more than either one could handle. Literally able to mold and then remove bones from his body to use as blades, his style of fighting was both grotesque and disquieting to those who faced him. Yet, he was not without honor, as when Lee asked for a time out to take his medication, Kimimaro actually stepped back from a strike.
Only when Gaara arrived did Kimimaro finally meet his match. With his body weakening and knowing he would not last long, his only hope of stopping his opponents was to release the second level of his cursed seal completely. Despite that, he was still unable to kill Gaara and was finally dragged by the sand deep underground to be crushed. Using his last bit of energy, Kimimaro created a field of spiny bone spikes in an attempt to spear his enemies. Gaara managed to escape with Lee in tow but Kimimaro had one last attack.
Unfortunately for him, at that moment his body gave out and the boy who fought so hard for a man who saw him as no more than another stepping stone to his own selfish goals, died. Orochimaru, upon the news of Kimimaro's death, only commented simply that he did not matter anymore. It was Sasuke that he was waiting for.
In Japanese, Kimi means "without equal" and Maro means "myself".

Yuuhi Kurenai is a rookie Jounin of Konohagakure. Her squad, also known as Team 8, consists of Hyuuga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba and Aburame Shino. She specialises in both tracking and Genjutsu. She graduated from the Ninja Academy at the age of 9, and became a Chuunin at age 13. She tends to favour Hinata over the rest of her team, because of how her father sees her as.
Kurenai is the overseer of Hinata Hyuuga, Shino Aburame, and Kiba Inuzuka in the Genin Team 8. Although a new Jounin herself, she is an expert in Genjutsu, or illusion ninja techniques. She spends a lot of time with fellow Jounin Asuma Sarutobi, and it is strongly suggested that she has a romantic relationship with him, especially after the two year time gap. The last we see of her is when Shikamaru comes to tell her that Asuma passed away during a mission, where she breaks down and cries.
Kurenai trained a girl named Yakumo. Yakumo put all of Team 8 and Naruto and Sakura in a genjustu world that looked similar to Konohagure, but Konohagure was demolished. Soon after they learned that Yakumo had made the world and try to stop her.
Naruto was the first one to wake up and he shook the others awake. They went to the place were Yakumo was hiding. They had a little trouble getting there, but Naruto managed to get through. Kurenai was in the room with half her body disappeared and Yakumo had a painting, which was Kurenai. Naruto managed to persuade her that she wasn't alone. Yakumo realized that the Hokage hadn't set flame to her house and claimed her parents' life. The demon within her, the person who makes the genjustu, had set flame.
After she had given some hope in Kurenai, the demon had come from within her and also persuaded her that Kurenai wanted to kill her and that Yakumo shouldn't spare Kurenai's life. But Naruto wouldn't let that happen so he started forward but got stuck in the demon's helping hands. Or just very big hands that held Naruto by the arms. Then out of the blue, Yakumo used her glazer to kill the demon and conquer her fears.
In the end, Yakumo learns that Kurenai, when she did the seal for Yakumo's ridiculous genjustu, was only trying to protect her. And Kurenai decides to go back to Team 8.
Hints, throughout the anime and the manga, have been seen showing Kurenai and her fellow Jounin, Asuma Sarutobi, having mutual affection for each other, Kurenai even crying at Asuma's death, and being one of the few to put flowers on his grave after the funeral.
In Chapter 142 of the manga, we find out that Kurenai is pregnant.

Iruka-sensei is a "Chuunin" (middle-level ninja) who was the apprenticeship instructor of the ninja "cadets" at the village Academy. He and Naruto share the same past, as both of them were neglected by people as they were growing up. Iruka lost his parents to the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox twelve years ago, and after that no one took care of him. Unlike most of the villagers, though, Iruka acknowledges Naruto's existence and accepts him, even though within Naruto is the Demon Fox who killed his parents.

Hide Top Character Description: Might Guy Might Gai is the arch rival of Kakashi Hatake, leader of squad seven. The two of them compete in all sorts of different events to prove who is the better ninja. Some of their competitions include 100 meter dashes, wrestling, eating contests, and rock paper scissors. They keep score, and Gai has a record of 50 wins and 49 losses. (And to top that, Gai is faster and probably stronger than Kakashi.)
Although they seem to be highly competitive in everything they do, they also share a special bond close friends. Gai is a highly skilled Jonin and a master of tai jutsu and has a very close, emotional bond with his student Rock Lee. There are many similarities between the two, like their bushy eyebrows, green jump suits, orange leg warmers, shiny bowl haircuts, and rather goofy nature which seems to make their opponents under estimate them, however both are very strong and competent in their fighting. They have many secret techniques which they are dying to show off to prove that they deserve recognition, and Lee finally gets it when he fights Gaara in the Chunin exams.
Gai and Lee also have similar skills seeing they both use tai jutsu. Gai is a very good and loving sensei, but he has his show of tough love which he insists builds character. Other than that, he a perfectly happy, go lucky, goof ball. Because of his quirky nature, he is also used in many of the filler episodes, and provides endless comic relief, for he is by far the most emotional, dramatic character in the entire series. That is why Might Gai is my favorite character, I love him.

Hide Top Character Description: Momochi Zabuza Momochi Zabuza is originally from the Land of the Hidden Mist. Known as the Demon from the Hidden Mist. His ability excels in silent killing and stealth. He is a legend among ninjas and is greatly feared, hailing from the Hidden Mist Village (also known as Bloody Mist Village). When he was a boy, he killed over 100 fellow students even though he wasn't a ninja (tradition was that the students must kill each other for the final exam). This caused great reform in the way that the students must pass and because of Zabuza, the tradition was broken.
Zabuza grew to become a extremely powerful shinobi and he even conspired to assassinate their Kage, but the coup d'etat failed and Zabuza went into hiding with the shinobi hunters hot on his trail. There he met a young boy laying on the street and he was going to originally kill him until he realized that this young boy reminded Zabuza of himself. This young boy's name is Haku who becomes Zabuza's right-hand man and tool. Haku holds the Kekkei Genkai - a skill passed down fromt generation to generation, and Zabuza uses Haku to help make his ambitions become a reality. In order to further his ambitions, Zabuza takes a job by a corrupt businessman name Gato who wants Zabuza and Haku to eliminate a bridge builder name Tazuna who, in order to defend himself, has hired the help of Cell Team 7 from the Hidden Leaf Village: Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, Haruno Sakura, and their sensei Hatake Kakashi.
The bridge that Tazuna is building will connect the Land of the Waves to the rest of the lands, and that's why Gato doesn't like that. In a final desperate fight, Zabuza fights against Kakashi and Haku fights against both Sasuke and Naruto. As the fight drags on, Kakashi decides to finish the fight and attempts a one-hit kill attack. Haku sensing his idol was in danger, quickly comes to Zabuza's aid and dies saving his master. Zabuza seems to act cocky and emotionless even after Haku dies until Naruto talks some sense to him. Zabuza is then seen crying and then decides to get his revenge on Haku.
This is when Gato arrives and reveals he doesn't plan to pay him but plans to kill him. Thus Zabuza decides to not assassinate Tazuna and sets his sights on Gato and ends his fight with Kakashi. Zabuza goes to attack Gato and manages to kill him but not until he receives like 20 swords in his back. Zabuza then asks Kakashi to carry him over to Haku so he can see his face. It then starts to snow during summer, as if Haku is crying. So Zabuza dies right next to Haku.

Hide Top Character Description: Neji Hyuuga Neji's team members are Tenten and Rock Lee, and his instructor is Gai sensei. Neji hates when they talk about the head family of Hyuuga being better than the branch family of Hyuuga.
Neji is not only talented but also good looking too. Neji's most powerful jutsu is Byakugan. Using that jutsu, he can see where your chakra flows and can easily damage his opponets. Neji is one to fear. He is a Konoha genius ninja.
When Neji uses his Byakugan he is assumed to have a 360° vision of his surroundings. As such, he usually compares the 8 birds to how much he can really see. Before he meets Naruto, he always sees 7 birds with his Byakugan, but when he turns around, there is an 8th bird. The symbolism lies in that there is still something Neji can't see. During a fight in episode 117, he sees 8 birds using his byakugan. He finally can see what Naruto was talking about when it came to changing fate and the like.
Neji actually defeats Kodomaru (the spider person), after getting the courage from Naruto.
The style Neji uses to fight is based on the chinese Yin Bagua Zhang (Eight-Diagramm-Palm). This style was previously taught in the forbidden palace in Bejing. Also it uses the number eight a lot, which is what Bagua means. In one episode, he holds his hands exactly the way it is taught for Yin-style Piercing Palms.
I'm told that a Naruto Profiles book states that Tenten and Neji are 13 years old. Kabuto states that Rock Lee is a year older than the Rookie 9, which would make Rock Lee 13 since the Rookie 9 are all 12 years old. Now, I'm also told that the Naruto Collector's Guide says Rock Lee is a year younger than his teammates, which would seem make Tenten 14 years old, and thus cause a contradiction. But this is not necessarily the case. We do usually talk about ages in years, even though not everyone is exactly one year apart in age, and Lee's birthday is in December while Neji's is in July and Tenten's is in March. So Tenten and Neji could be older than Rock Lee, but not by a full year. Of course, this is just conjecture. If you have more solid information, please contact me.

Hide Top Character Description: Neji Hyuuga Neji is the young prodigy of the Hyuuga clan, known to be the strongest clan in all of Konoha. The title of most powerful clan belonged once to the Uchiha clan--but then that clan was almost totally wiped out, leaving only Sasuke. One of the great reasons for the Hyuuga clan's strength is the secret technique they have passed down through the ages: the Byakugan.
Byakugan is a special ninja technique which enhances the eyes of its user, in order to allow them to see the minute details of your movements. Highly-developed Byakugan can also allow the users to see the chakra (life force) flowing in the body, and to see the spots in the body that control these forces. With the advantage of seeing these spots, a Hyuuga is able to use Jyuuken, a martial arts style which involves channeling your own life force through attacks at another, in order to critically damage his opponent.
Neji is a particularly gifted Byakugan user who is capable of freezing a person's movement in one strike, or completely shutting down the flow of energy in their body with a precision combo.
Despite this strength, however, Neji also has a strong belief that fate cannot be changed, and that his has been chosen already. He constantly mocks those who fight against fate (especially Naruto and his teammate Rock Lee), yet he fails to notice that he himself is silently fighting his own fate. His hatred of his own position in the grand scheme of the Hyuuga clan is noted early and often, and his frustration with fate drives his training.
The intensity of Neji's pupil-less stare when using the Byakugan is fitting for his personality...completely focused on his goals, and truly uncaring for the opinions of others. He locks his eyes onto the object of his desire, and strikes with precision at the first opportunity. He is a genius and a hard-worker...quite the hard combination to beat.
During the Chuunin exams, more specifically episodes 60 to about 64, Neji realizes what Naruto and Lee say is true: that fate can be changed. He is told the history of his family's past, and realizes that his father CHOSE to die, so that he could for once choose something with his own free will. Neji then gives up his grudge against the Hyuuga Head Family, and becomes closer to Hinata's father, while at the same time, becoming a better friend to Naruto. The biggest hint towards their growing friendship is when Neji says "Naruto, you have better eyes than I do," and later on says, "There is someone who can find Sasuke, and save him from the darkness... He can save him! Because... Naruto... You... saved me from darkness," in episode 117.

Hide Top Character Description: Orochimaru Orochimaru is another one of the legendary ninjas of the leaf country. He was trained by the Third Hokage himself, until he left the village after being denied becomming the next Hokage. He then taught himself a lot of forbidden Jutsu's, one of which he uses make himself immortal so that he could take revenge on the Third Hokage.
Orochimaru allied the Hidden Village of Sound and the Hidden Village of Sand where Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari came from, and planned with the Kazekage to destroy Konoha. However, on the day of the match, Orochimaru, Kabuto, and Kimimaro killed the Kazekage and Orochimaru put on his clothes and pretended to be him at the chuunin match, betraying both the Sand Village and Konoha, and placing himself right beside the Hokage.
Like Jiraiya, Orochimaru can also do Summoning No Jutsu, but instead of summoning Toads, he summons Snakes. Orochimaru is always using the "Cursed Seal" on people. He used it on Sasuke, but only so that Sasuke would seek him out and work for him, or maybe so Orochimaru could steal his body and have the Sharingan for himself.
In his fight with the 3rd Hokage, he pulled off his face and revealed the face of a young woman. He also revealed the real reason he was after Sasuske... which is that he wants Sasuske's body.
But this is not to be, as eventually, when Orochimaru can wait no longer and attempts to take over Sasuke's body, he is defeated by Sasuske. Kabuto then transplants some of cells from Orochimaru's defeated body into himself so that he might have greater power than even Orochimaru had.
As one of the sannin (three legendary ninjas of Konoha), Orochimaru had ben conducting experiments on various people, which included Anko Mitarashi. These experiments were the basis of his curse seal usage, and as a result, Anko has Orochimaru's curse seal on her neck. Eventually, Jiraiya found out that Orochimaru had been doing this and soon after that, Orochimaru left the village.
Orochimaru was at one point a member of the elite S-rank criminal organization known as Akatsuki (which means either 'red moon' or 'dawn'). There, he set sights on having Uchiha Itachi as one of his future "containers" but feared his (Itachi's) power, so he decided to use Sasuke instead.
His most loyal henchman is Yakushi Kabuto, whom he used since he was a child. Kabuto took information on a majority of the Konoha by failing the chuunin exams on purpose seven times.
Orochimaru left a mark on Sasuke. The mark is located on Sasuke's neck, and the only other person that has the same mark is Anko, one of Orochimaru's old students. He was surpirsed when he saw Kakashi seal the mark on Sasuke.
The most memorable of Orochimaru's schemes involved the kidnapping of Sasuke, who already had Orochimaru's curse seal at the time. This operation involved the Sound Four (and later, Five), namely Jirobu, Kidomaru, Tayuya, Sakon and Ukon, and Kimimaro.

The Second Hokage is the younger brother of the First Hokage, Shodai. He, along with his brother, founded the Hidden Leaf Village. After Shodai stepped down from being Hokage, Nidaime became the next Hokage. He has very powerful water jutsus (even when there was no water). Some of his attacks include Water Dragon Blast Skill, Water Formation Wall, and Water Wave. He was Sarutobi (3rd Hokage's) main teacher.
When Orochimaru resurrects Nidaime and Shodai, Kin Tsuchi houses Nidaime's soul. After being turned into a killing machine, he fights his former student. Sarutobi finally places a seal on both him and Shodai that their souls go to the "belly of death" which no one can escape.

Shikamaru Nara is in Team #10, which is Asuma Sarutobi's team, along with Ino Yamanaka and Choji Akimichi. Nara can use shadow Jutsu with a limit of about five minutes. He's a good team leader and really intelligent, but everything is annoying to him!
Shikamaru Nara is a lazy genius. He finds many things in life to be annoying or troublesome and is usually foul mouthed. But, deep down, he is a kind person. Not only is he kind, but he is a genius with an IQ of 200+. He is a brilliant strategist as well as a level-headed thinker. He also enjoys the game "Shougi", which is basically like chess.
Though he lacks motivation, this allows him to think clearly without becoming overly excited. These qualities were recognized by others for they could see he was a great leader, worthy of becoming a chunin. That is why he was the only one of Naruto's class mates to become a chunin on his first try.
Apparently, Nara also likes to look at clouds. When he was remembering how he and Chouji met, and how they became friends, he told Chouji that the seat was reserved for him, and that he would get lazy and just sit back and watch the clouds.

Shizune is Tsunade's student/right hand-woman. No one really knows how she met up with Tsunade, but it is rumored that Shizune had left Konoha when her uncle Dan (also Tsunade's lover) was killed. They say she was an errand girl when she found Tsunade drunk in a bar. Since then Tsunade and Shizune have wandered around.
Shizune is, like Tsunade, a medical ninja. Shizune's weapons include a contraption on her right wrist that shoots poison needles. She also can shoot these needles from her mouth. Shizune is a worry-wart who cares about Tsunade greatly. Though she may not show it at times, Tsunade cares for Shizune as well. Shizune fights to protect Tsunade but foremost she fights to protect Konohagakure.

Tayuya is another of Orochimaru's followers. She is a part of the Sound Five who gets Sasuke to leave Konoha and join Orochimaru. Each member of the Sound five represent one of the four directions, or four corners that create a barrier. Tayuya happens to be the North corner.
Tayuya has a foul mouth and swears a lot. You could call her a tomboy due to the fact she's not femimine at all. She summons demons and uses her flute to control them and fight for her. And like most of Orochimaru's followers she is also in possesion of Orochimaru's curse seal.

Temari is the oldest child out of her siblings, Kankuro and Gaara of the Desert. She can be very arrogant and over-confident of her abilities, though she does have some very strong attacks.
She carries around a large fan which can create large wind jutsus. As well she can summon Kamaitachi, a powerful summon that can level an entire forest in one attack.
Temari comes from the Village Hidden in the Sand. Apparently she likes Shikamaru.
When Temari comes into the show in episode 20, she is indeed 15 years old, but after the two and a half year gap in the show in what is known as "Naruto 2", she is then 18 and at the rank of Jounin.
Temari is the daughter of the Kazekage of the Village Hidden in the Sand which is also known and Sunagakure No Sato. She carries a large metal fan which she uses in her ninja attacks, like her summoning which we first see when she comes to Shikamaru's aid during the battle with the Sound 5 when Shikamaru Nara is sent with others to retrieve Act of Sasuke. She summons Kamatari, a Kamaitachi or "Cutting Weasel". Her true Summoning attack is Kuchiyose: Kirikiri Mai (Summoning: Quick Beheading Dance). Temari, Naruto, and Tenten are the only genin that can do Summonings. She and Shikamaru were fighting against Tayuya who was the weakest of the Sound 5 group.
During the 2.5 year gap in Naruto, she becomes a Jounin, and she seems to be a link or a "liaison" between The Leaf Village and The Sand village.

Tenten is part of a team made up by Rock Lee and Hyuuga Neji. She has an extreme talent in weapons, able to throw a kunai or shuriken without missing the target. The only time she misses is if she has a break in her concentration.
When she went to the Chuunin Exam, she was beaten by Temari. Since Tenten's ultimate attack is Twin Rising Dragons, a smoke-like attack formed by two scrolls, Temari's huge fan nullified the attack.
She seems to show some feelings for Neji. She always states to Lee that he can never beat the genius Neji and trains with him very often. She not only admires Neji, she also looks up to the 5th Hokage, Tsunade, as like an idol. She works hard to become like her as well.
In the Chunin exams, when they're entering the false room 301, Tenten thinks to herself that Sasuke was cute and funny.
I'm told that a Naruto Profiles book states that Tenten and Neji are 13 years old. Kabuto states that Rock Lee is a year older than the Rookie 9, which would make him 13 since the Rookie 9 are all 12 years old. And then I'm also told that the Naruto Collector's Guide says Rock Lee is a year younger than his teammates, which would seem make Tenten 14 years old, and thus seem like a contradiction. This is not necessarily the case, however. We do usually talk about ages in years, even though not everyone is exactly one year apart in age. So if someone is 13 years old and someone else is 14 years old, we would typically say that one is a year older than the other, even though they might only be a couple months apart in age with the 13 years old having not yet had his or her birthday. This is the situation we are seeing here, which can be verified by looking at the characters birth months. Lee is younger than his teammates, but only by a few months, not an entire year.

The Third Hokage is the Hidden Leaf village chieftain. He would probably have retired as Hokage (highest ninja position) of the village twelve years ago had the Fourth Hokage not sacrificed himself in order to seal the Demon Fox. He's now quite old, and he mostly does administrative jobs like running the academy, assigning missions to the ninja teams, and other such tasks.
The Third Hokage is the one who recognized and explained to Iruka about Naruto's behavior, that it was an affirmation from the village that Naruto was alive, that he existed, and that he can be a contributor to the village.
The Third Hokage was killed while using a forbidden jutsu in an attempt to kill Orochimaru in episodes 79-80. Although he failed, he did take away the use of Orochimaru's arms so that he may never perform a ninjustu ever again.

Tsunade, or Granny Tsunade as Naruto would call her, is one of the three legendary Sannins that was trained under the 3rd Hokage, also known as Sarutobi, along with Jiraiya and Orochimaru. Unlike Orochimaru and Jiraiya, she has incredible super-human strength and a bad temper to go along with it. Tsunade also happens to be the grand daughter of the 1st Hokage. She is a spontaneous person who loves to gamble, even though she is horrible at it and always ends up losing.
Her grandfather died, when she very young, fighting a great war, and everybody in her life that wished to become Hokage in the future, like her brother and boyfriend, also ended up dying. So she goes along traveling the world, with her student Shizune and Pig Ton-Ton, borrowing money from banks and loan-sharks to gamble and lose it.
Because of her troubled past, she resents and refuses to go back to Konoha (the Hidden Leaf Village). A turn of events then happen involving Orochimaru and she then she finally decides not only to return to Konoha but to also take the place of her deceased sensei and become the 5th Hokage. As Hokage, she tries to rebuild the almost obliterated village of Konoha.
Tsunade has a huge fear of blood, but she gets over it when she was fighting Orochimaru... which is good, since she is a medic.
Toward the end of episode 96, Tsunade has flashbacks to her days with Dan, her boyfriend, and her little brother Nawaki. They both wanted to be hokage, but unfortunately both died. Tsunade gave them a necklace that belonged to her grandfather, the 1st Hokage, but it was given to and meant only for her (though with the chain of events that occurred, it seems to belong to those who are meant to be someone important to Konoha, as in the hokage). She gave both Kawaki and Dan the necklace, and they each ended up dying from it.
Naruto is like a little brother to Tsunade because he looks like her younger brother, and has most of the traits that Dan had including goals which is to be hokage and protect the village. She offered a challenge to Naruto, telling him that he couldn't master the Rasengan in a week, but if he could then she would give him the necklace. Of course, he did win and he got the necklace, but he didn't die.
Tsunade is believed by some to bethe Yondaime's aunt, which, if true, would make her Naruto's great aunt.
The symbol on the back of her coat, "kake", means "gamble" or "wager".

Yugao is said to be Hayate's lover. She promised him that she would avenge his death, but what she doesn't know, is that Baki is the one who killed Hayate. She is also seen in the episode "The Third Hokage: Forever" at the monument where Kakashi was, at that time, carrying flowers for Hayate.
Since her name was never revealed in the English dub, when she debuted in the fifth trading card series, instead of her name, they put in ANBU instead.
